The ECE program at UPRM is currently the 24th Largest ECE program in the
USA: We currently have over 1,400 undergraduate, over 120 MS students,
and over 20 PhD students enrolled in our programs. We account for over
12% of the entire undergraduate student population at UPRM. Our student
population, while 99.9% Hispanic American, is very diverse – over 27% of
the student population is female (twice the national average).
During the
academic year 2001-02 a total of 235 undergraduate degrees in electrical
and computer engineering were awarded.

The ECE program serves the best students in Puerto Rico: Only 37% of
the applicants were admitted during the academic year 2001-02. The ECE
Department boasts the top Admission Index Scores in the entire UPR
University System.
Our students are natural leaders and are heavily
involved in extracurricular activities. Our IEEE student branch is the
11th largest in the world, having approximately 400 active members. The
IEEE student branch won the 1999 Region 9 IEEE Student Chapter of
Excellence Award.
